Citizens House was originally a gift from the American Forces to the people of Consett, in recognition of their contribution to the Second World War.

Originally located on Front Street Consett, the old building was demolished and Citizens House moved to it's current location on Station Road. The building is maintained externally by the Local Authority and internally by the Citizens House Committee, using funds raised from letting out the rooms and facilities of the premises to local Groups and Clubs.
